It’s fun to look at all of Eliza’s monthly pictures next to each other and see how much she has changed. Here she is months 1-4.

When you exclusively spend 4 months with your baby, it’s hard to imagine that you will spend any part of a day without her. I was dreading and in denial about going back to work. I love my job and I love my coworkers but I really enjoyed being home. Staying home is not an option for me so I had to go back to work.

We had found her daycare provider back in January so at least I didn’t have to worry about that. The week before I went back to work I sent her there for two half days and she did great! Bridget, her mom Mercia and Bridget’s daughter Brittany take care of the kids in their home and they are wonderful! I was so glad I took her there for those two days because it gave me one less thing to worry about on my first day back at work.

I went back to work on Wednesday, July 25. I was so glad I had chosen a Wednesday so I could ease back in with a short week. I was also really happy that they let me slowly ease into work and slowly transitioned my projects back to me. Those first few days were short and I was outta there at 4pm that first week! I couldn’t wait until the end of the day to get to daycare and pick Eliza up.

Tahoe

Eliza in Staci's backyard

Eliza in Staci’s backyard

About 2 weeks before I went back to work, Andy and his friend Sam went on a guys trip to Vegas. I didn’t want to stay home so I took Eliza to Tahoe. We stayed with my friend Staci in Minden, which is about 30 minutes outside of Heavenly. Staci was in Utah for an interview for part of the visit so the first evening I took her to Heavenly Village and we walked around. I saw a place to do some wine tasting and I had never done wine tasting with a baby before but Eliza was really good!

The next day I took Eliza to the lake. I wanted to take her to the beach and get her little feet in the sand but she fell asleep on the drive. Then an hour later I wanted to have a meal at the Hyatt in Incline Village but Eliza was being unusually cranky and I didn’t feel like I could eat a meal there without having to leave in the middle of it so we sat in some shade and looked at the lake for a while. We went back to the car and I ended up driving all the way around the lake! Oh well. The rest of the visit was spent catching up with Staci and that was fun.

On our way home we met Courtney for lunch at a Whole Foods in Folsom and it was nice to catch up with her too.

Eliza is such a great little traveler. She slept the whole way to and from Tahoe so that made it an easy drive for me since I was traveling alone.

July

July was my last month of maternity leave. I definitely soaked it up with lots of walks in Walnut Creek and Danville and lunches with friends. And of course shopping trips to Target. I hate to say it but Eliza LOVES Target. She likes it when I hold her as we walk through the store and she just looks around. I like to tell her what we are shopping for or just talk to her. Of course I think she is cute but when we are out and about, people stop me all the time to tell me how cute she is. Of course I love that. But the best part is when they talk to her and she just gives them a big smile. She is such a happy baby and I love that she spreads her joy to others!

July 4th was kind of a bust for us this year. It was on a Wednesday in the middle of the week so that was awkward. We were craving Mexican food and decided to go to lunch at On the Border in Dublin and then we went to Target to pick up some stuff. For whatever reason, Eliza didn’t end up going down for a nap until 5pm. We thought that when she woke up we would feed her and maybe see some fireworks. Well, she didn’t wake up until 6am the next morning! And of course instead of enjoying all of that time I spent half of it worrying if she was ok because at that time her normal bedtime was 8pm and she usually napped from 2-5.
