July 2013

July was a fun milestone month for Eliza. She started walking on her own on July 16 – at 16 months old, finally!-  and that was exciting for all of us. She was talking more too and started calling herself “Ziza.” It was really cute. She also started to wonder what happened to people when they left the room. I remember one day when Andy left the room and she looked at me and said “Where’s Andy?” That made me laugh. I mean, I call him Andy so I guess she  was just copying me, right?  🙂

We were busy in July as well but a little less busy in June. We went to my co-worker Rebecca’s house for 4th of July but didn’t get to see fireworks because Eliza went to bed early. Also during July 4th weekend we went back to our old neighborhood in the city and met some friends at the Fillmore Street Festival. It was fun to be in our old neighborhood with Eliza. We stopped by the house we used to live in on Steiner Street and got to see our former landlords. They live on the top floor and it turns out that they had a son who was a few months older than Eliza.

We also met Megan, Jim and Kelsey at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito. They live in Santa Rosa so it was a good “central” place to meet. The museum was fun and we enjoyed catching up. On another weekend we went up to the state fair in Sacramento and it was fun but HOT! There were some art exhibits there and Eliza really seemed into them. And of course she loved the animals, especially the “baby piggies.”

Before they moved we met Andy’s parents for breakfast in Berkeley. After breakfast we went to a toy store and Eliza found this cute little monkey and put it around her neck and grandma and grandpa ended up buying it for her. It was so cute.

Here are a couple of early walking videos:

June 2013

Looking back on June, I realize that it was an extremely busy month. I don’t know how we managed to fit this all in but somehow we did. First off we took our friend Luba to lunch for her birthday. She hadn’t seen Eliza in a while so it was nice to catch up. After tha we went to the Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival with our friends Amy and Jesse. We had such a good time walking around, tasting wine and seeing the art. Eliza was so good and enjoyed hanging out and looking at people. It was a fun day.

The next day we went over to Marin to see Andy’s family so Eliza could see her grandparents and cousins. She had so much fun playing with everyone.

We also took a weeklong trip to Houston to attend my niece Yasman’s graduation. It was really fun to see the family and be there for an extended period of time. Eliza also got to swim for the first time in my dad’s pool. We saw some of my high school friends and then also drove to Austin for a day to see my friend Lisa, her husband Lee and her son Markham.

For Father’s Day we had a family day at the horse races because daddy loves to gamble. It was a fun day and Eliza enjoyed seeing the “horsies” and loved cheering during the race. We even let her point on the page and pick a couple of horses.

We also did a breast cancer walk with AAA and took Eliza to the Alameda County Fair for the first time. We just love that fair and look forward to taking her there for years to come. She also got to ride a merry-go-round for the first time and she was scared at first but then began to relax and enjoy it.

June was also a big milestone month in that Eliza took her first steps on June 21.

May 2013

I haven’t blogged in AGES! We’ve had such a fun summer that I haven’t had time to sit down and blog about what we’ve done. Since things are slowing down and I finally have some time to breathe, I’ll post about some of the fun things we did over the summer.

The weekend before Memorial Day we drove down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to take Eliza to see the “fishies.” She loved looking at everything but she especially loved the part of the aquarium where you could touch the starfish and other sea animals in the water. I think she would have stayed there the whole time if we would have let her. She also loved the jellyfish and penguins.

Memorial Day weekend was relaxing and we did go to a BBQ at Laura and Isidro’s house. Eliza had a fun time playing in their yard and interacting with the adults and kids. I dressed her in her adorable strawberry outfit and it was so cute.
