February 2014

February was a busy and fun month. Eliza’s personality is totally developing and she makes us laugh numerous times a day. She is just so fun and cute! Everyone says the twos are supposed to be terrible and I am sure she will have her moments but I can see that we are going to have a lot of wonderful and fun moments too.

We watched the Super Bowl with our neighbors Jen and Tim and their kids and although the game was really boring, we all had fun. A few days later was their daughter Emily’s second birthday party. The theme was tutus and bow ties and Eliza wore a pink tutu that had been in her closet since she was born, plus she got a purple one as a party souvenir. She had a great time playing at the park across the street from our house where the party was held and now she is totally into her tutu. She requests to wear it a few days a week with her outfit and I oblige. After all, when else in life is it perfectly acceptable to wear a tutu?

On February 8, Andy and I took Eliza to see her first movie, Frozen. It was a great movie and we all loved it. She did really well and sat in her seat for AN HOUR. We were really impressed. After the hour I walked out of the theater with her a few times but then we came back in and she just stood at the wall beside us to finish the movie. She fell in love with the main character Elsa and also the song Let It Go and we downloaded it onto her iPad and we listen to it ALL THE TIME. We also decided to get her the Frozen DVD for her birthday so she will be so excited.

This sounds totally random but Eliza was fascinated with the rain this month. We’ve been in a drought for a couple of years and even though she was born on a rainy night, Eliza hasn’t really experienced rain. We started to get some rainy weather in February and she just loved it. We opened the front door and she sat and watched it rain. She was also so excited when I would hold an umbrella when we walked outside in the rain. She just had the biggest smile on her face. It was so adorable and all so new to her.

Valentine’s Day was a good day. It was a Friday and I kept Eliza home with me. We had plans to go to brunch with a moms group but apparently everyone cancelled so it ended up being just Eliza and I for breakfast. We had wonderful mommy/daughter time. After that we went to the Concord Senior Center to pass out Valentine’s to seniors. We had made the Valentine’s with the organization Give Together on Sunday, Feb 9 so it was nice to then go hand them out. Eliza loved it and of course everyone thought that she and her curls were just adorable. After that we headed home for her nap and then when she woke up she and I went to Buchanan Field (the Concord Airport) to watch the planes take off and land. She just loves it there and we had a good time. Andy came home around 5 and we all had dinner together and hung out. It was a good day.

Eliza got her second haircut in February. She got her first one in October 2013 and she did great and didn’t even cry but I was not happy with it. The woman seemed freaked out that the top of her hair was straight and the rest was curly and she just butchered it. I had asked for a trim and she cut off almost all of her curls. I asked around and found Ms. Karen’s Place in Lafayette and heard she was great with kids and knew how to cut curly hair. Sadly, Eliza cried during the cut but Ms. Karen was sweet and did a fabulous job! Eliza got a bow and glitter in her hair and left with a sticker and a balloon. At least she was happy when it was over. And she looked adorable.

Here are some funny and cute things that Eliza has said this month:

Eliza has been carrying around a security blanket recently and I asked her about it one morning as I was getting her dressed.

Me: Does your blanket make you feel happy?
E: Yes
Me: Does it make you feel safe?
E: Yes. It make me strong.  (heart melting!)

Funny question that she asked: Where is the fox?

And a funny statement: My hippopotamus hurts.

Out of the blue statement: My mommy is a cool cat.

I not a boy. I’m a big girl. And that’s it.

One evening while driving home she told me that red means go and stop means go.

January 2014

January started off with a trip to San Francisco on New Years Day for dinner with Andy’s family. It was fun getting to see the whole family and have Eliza spend time with her cousins. Andy’s birthday dinner was a few days later and we made it family friendly by getting a private room at Buffalo Wild Wings. It was a fun night and Eliza enjoyed playing with her friends Daniel and Emily.

We also went wine tasting two weekends in a row, WITH Eliza. I probably won’t do that with Eliza again but both friends that we went with had kids a little older than Eliza so she had other friends to play with. Mostly it was me tasting and Andy was outside with Eliza while she played since he’s not a huge wine drinker.

At the end of the month there was a family yoga class at Bloom and Eliza and I went and she had a blast! She was so excited and kept saying “I do yoga” and would tell everyone in the class “That’s MY yoga mat.” She was hilarious. She mostly ran around the room and didn’t do too much yoga but it was really fun to see how excited that she was to be there.

Another big thing this month is that she is really starting to be more insistent about picking out her clothes. She refuses to wear jeans and the only jean-like thing she will wear is a jean skirt or jeggings. She calls all of her black pants “yoga pants” and will request to wear those. But mostly I just open her drawer or closet and let her pick. She does well for the most part although there have been a few interesting outfit combinations.

And lastly, I got away for a few days and Eliza had some good one on one time with daddy! I went to Yellowstone with Cathy and Grace for 4 days and had a wonderful time. Eliza went to Andy’s school with him while I was gone and while day one was a little rough, the rest of her time there was great and she had fun.

Some funny things Eliza said this month:

She got a couple of princess dolls and she calls them “Cinderbella” and “Sweeping Booty”

Andy: Eliza, please stop coloring your table.
Eliza: No. You’re a bad bad boy.

Me: I am turning off the iPad while we eat and you can have it when dinner is over.
Eliza: Dat’s not a good idea.
