April 2015

April has been a busy month and there have been a couple of not so great things that happened but it’s been ok overall. First, Eliza had an oral food challenge with egg since last month her allergy test showed that she was no longer allergic to eggs or bananas. The next step after that is to have her eat an egg or banana in a doctor’s office and see if she has a reaction. We started off with egg. They gave her a tiny 1/8 piece of the egg and and she immediately felt bad, turned red, threw up, got hives. It was scary to watch her anaphylactic reaction. So no eggs and I am not even going to attempt to try bananas. They said maybe wait until she is 6 and try again.

Then the weekend after that happened we were driving on the freeway and got rear ended by someone. Traffic on the freeway all of a sudden came to a complete stop and I guess they weren’t paying attention and hit us. And of course it turns out that they were uninsured. I had whiplash but Andy and Eliza were fine. Thank goodness she has a good car seat! When you have an accident you are also supposed to replace your car seat so insurance sent us money to buy a new one so we have already replaced that. And the people who hit us graciously agreed to buy us a new stroller since her stroller was in the back of the car when they hit us.

And now on to some fun things for the month, Eliza did a couple of trial ballet classes and loved the class at Dance Connection PAC because they do ballet AND tap so we signed her up for that. She is so excited and really loves it. She is obsessed with wearing her tap shoes and wants to wear them all the time but she can’t.

Andy and Eliza were on Spring Break this month so we spent some time together, went to San Francisco one day, went to the pool another day and just had a nice time staying local and relaxing.

This good sleeper has not been very good at going to bed lately. Even if we put her in bed she will stay up until 9 or 9:30 playing her room. Then around 11:30 she wakes up and comes downstairs to see me or ends up in our bed. I don’t mind that so much but she always puts her head near me and ends up kicking poor Andy so I know that drives them crazy. I don’t want her to sleep in our bed forever but I really don’t mind a few cuddles now and then. But then again, she’s not kicking me. 🙂

On April 29 we flew to Texas for 10 days with family and friends and also to attend my friend Glenn’s wedding on May 2. Eliza was so great on the plane. She got her own seat and loved sitting by the window. Once we got to Houston she loved picking vegetables from my mom’s garden and had fun swimming in my dad and stepmom’s pool. More on the trip in next month’s blog post.

Eliza has been especially funny this month for some reason. Grandmas- you won’t like some of these but I am documenting them for posterity. Here are some of her sayings that have had us in stitches (or in complete shock):

Asked me: Where is God? Does God have a cat?

I helped her put her headband on and then she exclaimed “I’m so stylish!” Once I stopped laughing she told me “You need to write that one down.”

Deep thoughts from Eliza while cruising the Safeway aisles: I don’t want you to get a baby new. I’m your baby. I’m your sweetie pie.

I have a really unbreakable head

Can I get a pedicure mommy? Because my feet aren’t pedicured.

Dr. Blair’s my name and finding out is my game.

Passing the chocolate ice cream at Safeway: that looks like a piece of poop!

Walking around the house playing saying: bitch bitch biggity bitch I said bitch bitch biggity bitch.

Then asking me to join her in a new rendition: bang bang bangity bitch, bang bang bangity bitch.

While watching The Little Mermaid one evening:
Me: That Ursula isn’t very nice is she?
Eliza: She’s a fuckin bitch.

Threw an epic tantrum because I wouldn’t turn off the music so her fake horse could sleep.

March 2015

Wow, March was a busy, busy month for us! Of course the main event was Eliza’s third birthday but we had a lot of fun the rest of the month celebrating other things too.

The month started out with Eliza having sleeping problems. She’s always been a really good sleeper so this was a change for us. She kept coming downstairs multiple times telling she wasn’t ready to go to bed or there were monsters in her room or that she just wanted to cuddle. It went on for a few long weeks but then stopped by the end of the month.

We went to see the movie Cinderella and Eliza actually stayed through the whole movie! It was her first time lasting through an entire movie in the theater. A few times during the movie she said she was ready to go home but we just kept telling her that she would miss Cinderella at the ball and that seemed to change her mind.

My mom came to visit from March 18-25 and we had a nice visit. She has never been able to come visit for Eliza’s birthday or go to her party so it was nice to have her be able to come. We went to Filoli Gardens and took her to the Sacramento Railroad Museum and had a good visit. We did Eliza’s party at Skipolini’s in Walnut Creek on Saturday, March 21. They have a nice outdoor area in the back and a playscape for kids and she and her friends had a great time. My friend Sharon of Lovely Little Cakes made her this amazing allergen-free cake since Eliza wanted the birthday theme to be Frozen and the cake was beautiful AND delicious.

On Eliza’s actual birthday we went to the doctor for her 3 year old check up, went to Little Farm in Berkeley and were going to ride the carousel and steam train, which she loves to do, but they were both closed. So we drove down to Danville and had lunch at Los Panchos (she loves carne asada and rice) and then went to Miglet’s for a birthday cupcake. That night after Andy got home from work we went to dinner at In-N-Out Burger. Then we came home and had a mini birthday celebration and gave her presents from us. It was a fun day.

In March we also did some allergy testing to see if she had outgrown any allergies. The test showed that she had outgrown her egg and banana allergy and that she was also allergic to sesame. The next steps were to go to the office and do an oral food challenge with egg and then follow that up with banana. More on how that went in the April update.

We also attended a fun Easter party at her friend Sophia’s house. It was a fun party with a bounce house, egg hunt and craft project of painting a pot and then putting a marigold in it as a take home gift. It was a really nice day.

On a sad note, one of Eliza’s little friends died this month. Keira turned 3 on February 25 and Eliza attended her birthday party on March 8. Sweet little Keira passed away on Saturday, March 14 of complications from Myocarditis. It was very sudden and unexpected and we are all sad and her parents are devastated. We met Keira and her mom in the newborn moms group at DayOne back in the spring of 2012 when the girls were little so it is really hitting home for a lot of us. We will always remember sweet little Keira.

Eliza saying of the month (apparently I only wrote down one):

Eliza to my mom after she patted Andy on the shoulder: Don’t pet my daddy. He’s not a dog!

I had my first parent/teacher conference for Eliza this month and her teacher can totally see her being involved in drama or acting in some form and said she needs to work on this: “Eliza likes to lead her friends but needs to work on talking to them in a nice tone of voice. Eliza needs to use her words instead of her hands when she is frustrated.”

February 2015

We started out February by meeting Ralph & Elayne for dinner in San Francisco. It was nice to see them and catch up and Eliza had a good time with grandma and grandpa as well, even though she acted a little shy. She loved the bracelet that they gave her. She is such a jewelry girl!

Emily’s spa day birthday party was a hit and Eliza was happy to get her nails and toes done. She is such a girly girl! It was a fun day and we had a good time.

For Valentine’s Day at her school they had a party and did a book exchange. I was so glad that they did that rather than exchange candy that she can’t even eat.

On Valentine’s Day, Andy and Eliza surprised me with breakfast in bed. It was so nice to get that surprise and be able to relax a little longer. We also had a birthday party to go to that day. Her friend Audrey turned 2 and had a birthday party at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito. It was a gorgeous day and we had a good time.

My 40th birthday was on Feb 25 and I celebrated it for what felt like a couple of weeks. Eliza got a lot of cupcakes during the end of February with all of the celebrations going on.

Video singing her favorite part of Maroon 5’s Animal:

Funny Eliza sayings:

Me to Eliza: You’re so cute I want to gobble you up.
Eliza: Stop! I’m not food!

I don’t have boobies. I have nipples.

Andy was talking about how we would be sad when she went off to college and Eliza got sad and said: I won’t go to Colorado!

When I went to college I threw up! (She threw up in Colorado last summer because of the altitude)

Put her into the car and she randomly starts singing “Nationwide is on your side.”

There’s a family going downstairs and they’re leaving. (Said as we were all walking down the stairs to go somewhere)

One morning I woke up to the words “mommy, I have a kazoo” and then she blew it in my face. :-/

And that same day ended with poop streaks on the stairs from your Eliza sliding down the stairs after her nap in her dirty pull up. Fun times!!
